    Easy Steps to Boost Your Childs Self Esteem

    I have compiled fast easy ways to boost your childs self esteem. As you all are aware, self esteem in children is declining. Children today seem to have more issues with their self esteem, than compared to when I was a child. I hope this helps others with their children.
    1. Show love and affection to your child. All our dealings with our children, starting from infancy, should be done with a lot of affection and love. A baby who was dealt with love and affection will get a subconscious feeling that s/he is worthy and important enough to be loved.

    2. Compliment your child. Give your child compliments as often as possible, whenever they do something right. Say, "I am very proud of you. You are very special. I like the way you have done it."

    3. Make your compliments credible. It is important, however, that the compliments be credible. Exaggerated compliments like, "You are the best in the world. You are the nicest person that ever lived" can actually be counter-productive. The child will develop an inflated ego, and that can affect his relationship with friends, which in the long run will have a negative effect on his or her self-esteem.

    4. Set goals for your child. The goal should be something attainable--to get dressed by herself, to get a certain mark on his next test. Set goals that are suited for the child's age and capabilities (setting a goal which is unattainable will have a negative effect). As the child works toward the goal, coach her along and compliment her success each step along the way. Once the child reaches the goal, compliment her achievement and reinforce her self-image as an achiever.

    5. Criticize the action, not the person. When the child does something negative, say to the child, "You are such a good and special child, you should not be engaging in such an activity," instead of saying, "you are a bad child."

    6. Validate your child's feelings. When your child suffers a blow to his self-esteem, it's important to validate his feelings. For example, if the child gets offended by a hurtful comment made by a friend or a teacher, say to the child, "Yes, you were offended by what that person said" or "you were offended by the fact that the other person doesn't like you." Only after the child feels that his feelings have been validated will he be open to you bolstering his self-esteem by pointing out the people who do like him, and the positive things that others have said about him.

    7. Be proud of your child. On a regular basis, we must remember to tell the child how fortunate and how proud we are to be her parents.

    8. Talk positively about your child in the presence of important people in his life, such as grandparents, teachers, friends etc.

    9. Never to compare your child to others, saying, "why aren’t you like Johnny?" When such comparisons are made by others, reassure your child that she is special and unique in her own way."

    10. Make sure that others dealing with your child know your child's strengths. At the beginning of the school year, speak with your child's teachers and tell them what your child's special strengths are and about the areas in which he or she excels, so that the teacher will have a positive outlook towards them and will continue to build on those strengths.

    11. Tell the child on a regular basis that you will love them unconditionally. When they fail, or do the wrong thing, remember to say to them, "You are special to me, I will always love you, no matter what!”

    12. Tend to your own self-esteem. You need to see yourself in a positive light. Parents who lack self-esteem will have difficulties bringing up a child with a high self-esteem. A good positive parent is a parent who knows that he or she is not perfect but values him or herself, while always trying to grow and improve.

    The following list consists of ten different steps to take that will help you to raise your self-esteem. For all those times you need to feel good about yourself, using these methods will help you take control of the way you feel about yourself.     Step Number One: Remember that without risk, there is no progress. If you never try anything new, you will never know anything different about yourself. Learn to be a risk-taker with some aspects of your life. And by taking a class, or learning something new, you’ll discover new things about yourself.

    Step Number Two: Imagine your goals are achieved. Of course, most of us rarely accomplish all the goals that we’ve set for ourselves. But if you want to own a home, start a business, have children, or travel- whatever your goal may be, you can visualize it and at some point, it helps the dream to become reality.

    Step Number Three: Start a Victory Wall of accomplishments. Along the way, we all have moments in our lives that we cherish and want to remember. After all, if you don’t create a sense of calm about you, then who will?

    Step Number Six: Outline your personal goals. Keep your personal goals on index cards, or use a similar system to list exactly what it is you want to do with your life. This can be easily updated and changed on a frequent basis. Our lives are constantly in a state of change, so our goals will experience similar changes.

    Step Number Seven: Simplify your life. When you learn to un-clutter your living space, you may sometimes find that you can prioritize other things in your life as well. You may be clinging to something that reminds you of the past. But if you learn to let go of material objects, you may find that the only thing that was holding you back was....you!

    Step Number Eight: Don’t give up! Sometimes we goof up, make mistakes, become embarrassed, or confused in front of other people. And then....so what? Most people feel the same way. It’s a rare person who never suffers from a blooper or a social mishap. The best thing to do is to persevere when we start something. Maybe we won’t like it once we are finished, but we’ll still feel better about ourselves for having finished it and followed through on a commitment.

    Step Number Nine: You may need to renegotiate some broken agreements. If the past is stopping you from doing some of the things that you would like to do, then you may need to come to terms with a problem before moving ahead. Think about a broken promise or commitment that you may need to re-work. Or perhaps there is a simple phone call that you need to make. In any case, remember to adjust your outlook. Sometimes things don’t work out as we would like, but we can learn to control our feelings and adjust our outlook accordingly. We can’t control other people or events, but by learning to change our outlook-the outcome of any situation may turn out better than we had ever imagined.

    Step Number Ten: Remember what Eleanor Roosevelt said, “No-one can make you feel inferior without your consent”. You need to become your best friend and biggest fan. Everyone needs a cheerleader, and if you don’t happen to have one, then do it yourself! Talk yourself up.

    When someone says something negative or discouraging about you, try to look at the remark in a different light. If there is a grain of truth in the remark, take the advice that it conveys. And try to look past the criticism to understand why the person would offer it. Perhaps its completely unfounded, and in that case, you need to realize other people have hang-ups and motives that keep them from realizing their potential as well.

    Easy Steps to a Better Marriage

    First of all not all marriages work and those that do are no cake walk. The fact of the matter is that you need to take a step back and look to yourself for the solution to the problem. In most marriages at least one of the individuals believe that the other is the primary source of the problems, but remember that both are contributing to the difficulties in the marriage. It takes 2 to make it work. Below are some things that you may or may not know and take it to heart, if you REALLY want to make it work.

    Marriage is work. Marriage is literally another job. If one dedicates the time and effort to the marriage relationship, the payoff is huge.

    1. Sacrifice. In a marriage, each individual has to be willing to sacrifice some of their own needs and wants for their partner. At the same time, their partner must be willing to make the same sacrifice. This is called reciprocity. Example: He may not enjoy going to the opera. However she may. For true love, he will make the sacrifice and go to the opera to keep her company, even though it is an activity he intensely dislikes. At a later date, she may have to make a similar sacrifice by engaging in an activity she dislikes.
    2. There needs to be time designated to the marriage. Time that is specifically allotted to the relationship, not for each other, but for the marriage.
    3. Express feelings and thoughts without the fear of a defensive posture or response. This can be very difficult, but is extremely important when communicating. However once a pattern has been established over years, where one is feeling blamed, put down or criticized, it is very difficult not to take a defensive posture. This takes a lot of effort and recognition on the part of the person who is being defensive. However this can be broken down.
    4. A team approach is extremely important in a marriage, because a marriage literally is a team effort. Whether you are attacking bills or financial issues, approach it as a team, and doing it together can be extremely helpful, as you are not alienating your partner. If your partner does not want any part of the bills or financial affairs, that is acceptable. However, many times partners feel like they are being left out. Money has been hidden, bills are not being taken care of, one is overspending. Subsequently, approaching the relationship as a team effort can be very helpful.
    5. Personal space. Everyone needs personal space. This is a teeter-totter, if you will, in terms of balance, for one individual may feel they are getting too much, and the other individual may be more needy. Again, at certain times, there may need to be mediation to discuss what is a good amount of personal space that can be a balance for both parties.
    6. Sexual needs. Respect each other’s feelings. INTIMACY AND SEX SHOULD NOT BE CONTINGENT ON BEHAVIOR. There should not be a reward scenario surrounding sexual intimacy. Sexual intimacy is not a payoff, and is horrendous if used as such in a marital relationship. Nothing like mimicking a child-parent relationship, I always say. You cannot make sexual gratification contingent upon chores and tasks being performed at home. Why? Household chores need to be shared because they are the responsibility of both parties. If sexual intimacy is reduced to a reward scenario for tasks performed, chaos will eventually result. I guarantee it. If not chaos, it can definitely lead to a superficial relationship.
    7. Reach some type of resolution before bedtime, even if it is an agreement to disagree.
    8. Life is very, very short. Remember to cherish the one you love. Life is precious. Try to remember why you married this individual in the first place.
